TVC N. The President, Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Hamad Kalkaba, will arrive in Nigeria on Monday for a three-day working visit to discuss the country’s hosting of the African Senior Athletics Championships.

Kalkaba will be welcomed by Habu Gumel, the President, Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and Solomon Ogba, the President of the Athletics Federations of Nigeria (AFN) with other sports dignitaries.

On arrival in Lagos, he will meet with the NOC president before proceeding to Asaba, Delta State for the second leg of his visit, a statement by Olukayode Thomas, AFN’s Head of Communications and Media said on Saturday in Lagos.

“Kalkaba will also on Monday meet with Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on the hosting of the 2018 CAA African Athletics Championships.

“The African Athletics Championships is a continental competition organised by CAA and the last edition was held in Durban, South Africa in 2016.

“After visiting Delta, his next point of call will be Port Harcourt where Kalkaba will inspect the High-Performance Center in the state.

“The CAA President will also meet with the centre’s Director, Ken Anugweje and other AFN officials to rub minds on how to move the centre forward,’’ the statement said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is the second time Nigeria will host the continent’s flagship athletics championship since it did so in 1989.

Delta which is widely seen as the home of athletics in Nigeria and beyond will again be showcasing itself to the world with the planned hosting of the 21st Senior African Athletics Championships. (NAN)
