More than 1,520 widows, divorcees and spinsters were married off in a mass wedding ceremony across the 44 local government areas of Kano State, Northwest Nigeria.
The marriage according to the Government is a way of reducing the number of unmarried men and women in the state.
The Kano Mass Wedding Ceremony was conducted at the city central mosque with a payment of N20,000 dowry of each of the married couples.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje who witnessed the first mass wedding under his administration says More will be done in the future. He charged the newly wedded couples to respect one another.
