The Department of State Security Service, DSS has arrested suspected notorious ESN commander Okechukwu Ama-Nlemedim popularly known as ‘Ejima’ and his twin brother who has been terrorising some parts of Imo State.
Parading the suspects at DSS office in Owerri the Imo State capital, the Director of DSS Wilcox Idaminabo said the suspect is part of the team that attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission in Owerri last week.
The security operatives recovered some improvised explosive Devices, Two A-K 47, two pump actions, one double barrel and ammunition.
Elated Governor Hope Uzodinma while commending security agents for the breakthrough said the suspect and his group have caused a lot of carnage in Imo State assuring his government is determined to deal with banditry in the State.
Hoodlums had attacked and burnt the Imo state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, located along Port Harcourt road in Owerri.
The hoodlums were said to have been convoy of more than five vehicles “moved from the Okigwe road shooting sporadically and scaring the residents.”
Vehicles and offices were set ablaze by these terrorists.
However, it was gathered that three of the hoodlums were gunned down by the police who came to repel the attack during a gun battle while others escaped.
At the last count the attacks on the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reached over 40 with sensitive materials like Thousands of Permanent Voter Cards, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and even lives of officers of the commission.
Gunmen have also killed some officials of the Commission in Imo and Anambra State during the Continous Voter Registration in both States leading to the suspension of the programme.
