As Nigeria looks to benefit from the high demand in gas production across the world, representatives of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited join other foreign expatriates for the groundbreaking ceremony of an indigenous gas processing and embedded power plant in the Adagbabiri community, of Bayelsa State.

This year’s vote by the European Union to keep natural gas; considered low-carbon emission, as a transition fuel towards cleaner energy has sparked keen interest from Petroleum exporting countries around the globe.
Nigeria, boasting the largest amount of natural gas reserves in Africa, has proven gas deposits totaling up to 208.62 trillion cubic feet based on recent data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

With Bayelsa State preserving over 20 percent of that figure, having about 18 trillion cubic feet of the gas reserve, representatives from some relevant federal agencies and foreign expatriates are in Sagbama for the grounding-breaking ceremony of an indigenous gas processing plant in the state.

The Obodofei Gas processing plant is set to benefit thousands of Bayelsans both in employment opportunities and the provision of sustainable energy for the people.

With the timeline for completion set to be revealed in a few weeks, more investors are expected to key into the project.

The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to be the first of many to follow and ensure that Nigeria is able to utilise its Gas reserves effectively and ensure energy security which has been a major source of concern  for experts who have been at a loss on how Nigeria which currently do not have enough energy will be able to transition from the Current fossil fuels to cleaner Energy as contained in pledges made under the Climate Change initiative.

The new momentum towards a more effective use of Nigeria’s gas reserves against the current situation where most of the gas in Nigeria is being flared instead of being put to use for Electricity generation, Domestic Use and Others.
