Young lawyers and law students need proper guidance, education, mentorship and exposure to thrive in the legal profession. This was among the views expressed at the annual SBA Ajibade business launching with the theme “Talent retention, challenges and the future of legal practices in Nigeria.”

It is not just the medical profession in Nigeria that is witnessing an exodus of talent seeking greener pastures abroad, the legal practice is also being threatened by many young lawyers who have become disillusioned, they are drifted to other ventures within and outside the country.

This spurred the conveners and speakers observed the factors behind this development ranging from salary, work culture, fulfillment and mental health.

Stakeholders also provided solutions to the issue at hand and advocated for improved legal education and working conditions.

According to them, if these factors are addressed, more talent and value will be retained in the legal profession and the country will be
the better for it.
