The Oyo/Osun command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recovered wraps of illicit drugs worth over 8miilion naira from smugglers.

Other items intercepted by the Command include 22,000 litres of Premium motor Spirit , 69 sacks of Dry Donkey Skin, used shoes worth over 60 thousand naira and 8.8 million naira worth of used tyres.

Comptroller of customs Service Oyo/Osun area command Babajide Jaiyeoba made the disclosure while addressing newsmen at the Headquarters of the Oyo/Osun area command in Ibadan.

According to him the recovered Foreign Parboiled rice is valued at over 74 million naira while the used vehicles is valued at over 87 million naira.

He said the Indian Hemp will soon be handed over to the Nigerian Drugs Law Enforcement Agency as it is awaiting approval from the appropriate authority.

The area comptroller who disclosed that so far, it has received over 65 billion naira from the activities of smugglers, added that the achievements were made through the Command’s synergy with other security agencies in the country.

Oyo State being a home to some Border Communities has seen an increase in smuggling activities through its Oke-Ogun and Ibrarapa axis especially parboiled Rice, Used Clothes and Others.

The Nigerian Customs Service has also stepped up its activities aimed at curtailing such development.

This seizure will be seen by many in the Customs Service as being a vindication of its ramped up activities to nip Smuggling and Other relate vices across the To States in the bud.

While the Customs command in both States will receive a pat on the back for this seizure many will also be urging it to be more conscious of the actions of its operatives in the line of duty especially with stories abounding of the brutality that has been meted out to people especially in the Ibarapa and Oke Ogun axis of Oyo State allegedly by its operatives in the line of duty.
