Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has received the annual report of the police service commission presented by the acting chairman retired justice Clara Ogunbiyi, when she led a delegation of commission’s Management Team to the presidential villa.

Professor Osinbajo told the visiting delegation that  Everywhere in the world, a police force is a representative of the people and the government such that there is a need to give it an ethos that will be admired by all.

The Vice President received the report on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, the report is submitted annually in accordance with section 17 of the Police Service Commission (Establishment) Act 2001.

He says the Police Force is in many ways, the first line of civil authority and in any country, it is a representative of the people.

He also commended the commission for their clarity of vision, hard work with the difficult task of managing a huge police force with several challenges.

The Acting Chairman of the Commission says one of the bastions of President Buhari’s administration is upholding the rule of law and As members of the Management team, they have no other alternative than to guard this mandate jealously as expressed by the framers of the Constitution.

She says the Commission has been consistent in ensuring that disciplinary sanctions are meted out to erring police officers, making sure officers are promoted as at when due, while  taking into consideration available vacancies and seniority, ensuring that proper and fit persons are recruited into the Nigeria Police Force.

Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi who is a retired Justice of the Supreme Court became the Acting Chairman of the Commission following the resignation of the Former Chairman of the Commission and a former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith.

Many observers have said the coming of Justice Ogunbiyi will lead to reforms in Police recruitment, Welfare and Others.
