Delta, AUDA-NEPAD propose N3bn to support smallholder farmers

A budget of Three Billion Naira has been proposed by the Delta state government and Africa Union Development Agency for the strengthening of 3,380 smallholder farmers’ capabilities in state.

The fund which is part of the COVID-19 recovery plan will see the Delta state government contribute one billion naira for a period of 10 years.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Godfrey Enita, disclosed this at the training of smallholder farmers at Songhai Farms, Amukpe community in Sapele Local Government Area.

This training for smallholder farmers is one of the ways of implementing the African Union Development Agency Intervention program.

The National Coordinator of AUDA-NEPAD, who was represented said the intervention is targeted at building the capacity of participants which will translate into more employment, better services among others

State Commissioner for Agriculture who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, reveals the state government’s commitment to the N3b budget that would last for a period of 10years.

Beneficiaries who are being trained in piggery, fishery and cassava farming amongst others will be helping the state to enhance it food security and improve production.
