Fashola descries diversion of funds for federal roads

Fashola dispels fears over possible nation-wide power shut-down

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has said that many states across the country would have been much linked to each other by good road networks if only funds for inter state roads are not used for Inter community roads.

Fashola disclosed this in Umuahia, the Abia state capital in continuation of his tour of south east states on inspection of the state of Federal roads and the level and quality of ongoing projects.

The minister, while stating that the Federal Government has initiated various capital projects in all parts of the country, lamented the deplorable states of most federal roads..

He expressed dismay that most roads believed to have been constructed or undergoing construction in some states were met in deplorable condition without any sign of ongoing works.

The former Lagos state Governor while appealing to communities who are privileged to have federal roads running through it to give all necessary support and assistance to the contractors to enable them execute the jobs unhindered and deliver promptly. He further advised that state Governments should concentrate on capital projects that will enhance inter state connectivity in area of transportation and business.

The minister later paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the state Okezie Ikpeazu in the Government house.
