The victims of the March 28 train attack in Kaduna state are demanding a compensation from the Federal Government to enable them to restart life.
This come nearly two months after the last batch of the 63 kidnap victims were freed on the 5th of October.
Their demand is also coming barely a day after the Nigerian Railway Corporation resumed train operations along the Kaduna-Abuja route, eight months after the attack.
The victims who addressed journalists in Kaduna said most of them lost their businesses and means of livelihood while in captivity.
They are not happy that they have been forgotten by the government according to them.
8 passengers had died in the immediate aftermath of the attack by Terrorists on the Abuja-Kaduna Passenger Train Service on the 28th of March 2022 at 8pm.
The attack which was a combined Improvised Explosives Devices and Gun attack lasted for sometime before Security Forces arrived on the Scene.
The arrival though did not prevent the Terrorists from abducting several dozens of passengers from the Train following the initial assault which claimed 8 lives.
The abductees were released in trickles over a period of several months through negotiation initially led by Tukur Mamu who is the publisher of the Desert Herald Newspapers and spokesman to controversial Islamic Cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi.
The releases according to families of victims which included a nursing mother and Others were made possible following the payment of ransom running into hundreds of Millions of Naira.
The last of the abductees were released in October after which the Federal Government expedited action on the reopening of the passenger service whose closure according to reports has led to losses running into Billions of Naira.
The call for victims on the Federal Government to compensate them for their losses may not be too unusual since it is something that obtains in other parts of the world though nobody knows what the response will be from the Federal Government nor how early the response will be.
