The National Broadcasting Commission has promised to prevail on DSTV to reverse the recent hike in its tariff.
This follows the intervention of the ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating the non implementation of Pay-As-You-Go Tariff plan by broadcast satellite service providers in the country.

A price hike by DSTV, one of the leading broadcast satellite service providers in Nigeria came into effect on June 1.

The increase in the tariff plan sparked a public outrage.

Many viewed the action as inconsiderate going by the social and economic effects of the COVID-19 health crisis on the people.

The NBC Director-General, Armstrong Idachaba while appearing before the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee Investigating the Non-implementaion of Pay-As-You-Go Tarrif by Broadcast Satellite Service Providers in Nigeria said, the agency would prevail on the service providers to reverse the price hike.

The legislators also want the federal government to come up with a robust strategy that will break the monopoly and open up the industry for larger participation.

They also seek deregulation of Direct to Home, Digital Terrestrial Television, Internet Protocol Television as well as local content participation through content sharing.
