Don identifies Climate Change, Migration as factors for food insecurity

Climate change, insecurity and rural-urban migration have been described as factors contributing to food insecurity in Nigeria.

This came to fore at the annual lecture of the College of Agriculture of the Osun State University.

It’s the maiden annual lecture of the UNIOSUN College of Agriculture, Ejigbo campus with the aim of contributing to sustainable agricultural development in the country.

This is coming at a time when Nigeria’s agricultural productivity level is gradually decreasing and experts predict a possible food crisis if drastic measures are not taken.

The Guest Speaker, Professor Stella Odebode says Nigeria needs a sustainable agricultural system that will guarantee food security and which will not compromise economic, social and environmental conditions.

Professor Stella Odebode who said that the present food system has failed advocates a synergy among stakeholders for efficient food security to save the nation from impending hunger

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Clement Adebooye explains that plans underway to support to college

Highlights of the event include Agricultural products exhibition done by the students of the Institution.

The Osun State University was established by the Osun State University in 2006 following a Law by the Osun State House of Assembly for its establishment.

The then Osun State Governor under whose tenure the State University was established, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, had upon its establishment said it will help in developing the manpower needs of the State.

The Osun State University has over the years since its establishment been at the forefront of manpower development in the State.

The annual lecture by the Osun State University’s College of Agriculture is one of the moves designed to not only continue to be a source of manpower development for the State but to also create a viable and sustainable relationship between the Town and Gown.
