ABUJA-KADUNA TRAIN SERVICE TO RESUME IN TWO WEEKS -FG

The Federal Government says the Abuja-Kaduna corridor of the Nations’ passenger Train Service will resume operations in two weeks.

The Minister of Transportation Muazu Jaji Sambo stated this in Lagos while on an inspection tour of rail network Infrastructures across Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States.

The Minister who was accompanied on the visit by the Minister of State for Transportation first visited the headquarters of the Nigerian Railways Corporation at Ebute Metta.

He first addressed the Staff of the Corporation who were gathered to receive him with the management team of the Corporation.

The Minister and his Minister of State for Transportation later met with the management of the Nigerian Railways Corporation.

With his meeting with the management Staff of the Nigerian Railways Corporation over the Minister proceeded to inspect the facilities of the Corporation from its Control Centre situated at the Mobolaji Johnson Railway Station at Alagomeji in Yaba.

The Minister later took a train ride from the Mobolaji Johnson Train Station at Alagomeji in Yaba to Ibadan, the Minister’s team took in a Stop at the Kajola Train Station In Abeokuta before proceeding onward to Ibadan the Oyo State Capital.

The Minister’s stop at the Kajola Train Station in Abeokuta was also to make an on the spot assessment at the Nigerian Railways Corporation’s Railways wagon assembly plant in Abeokuta.

He also Visited the Professor Wole Soyinka Railways Station also in Abeokuta named after Nobel Laureate, Professor Oluwole Akinwande Soyinka.

He interacted with passengers to know the state of affairs and also see for himself with first hand information of how passengers using the Corporation’s service are treated.

The Minister then proceeded to Ibadan the Oyo State capital through the Omi Adio Train Station and later Moniya.

With the train ride, inspection and Other sundry issues that needed his attention over, the focus shifted to talking about his impression on the inspection and Other National Issues, including the much anticipated reopening of the Abuja-Kaduna Passenger Train Service Corridor following the deadly March 28th Terror attack that claimed 8 lives and led to the abduction of dozens.

The last of the abducted passengers were released in October.

On the re-opening of the service, the Minister said the service will be reopening in 2 weeks.

He added that all measures have been put in place to ensure that the service is able to resume without further interruptions or attacks’.

He added that adequate Security measures have been put in place to ensure the Security of the tracks, the Corporations equipment and Security of Lives of Passengers on the Corridor.
