The Department of State Security has told the federal high court in Abuja that the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu had refused to appear before the court after prior notice of the day sitting.

Counsel for the DSS noted that all efforts to make Mr Kanu see reasons yielded no success as he refused to be present in court.

Presiding Judge, Binta Nyako noted that regardless of the defendant’s absence from court, the court had adjourned for an update on Mr Kanu’s appeal.

Counsel to Mr Kanu, Mike Ozekhome, Senior Advocate of Nigeria gave the court the rundown of the proceedings from the court of Appeal which struck out all the charges against Mr Kanu and subsequently the appeal filed by the federal government against the judgment to the Supreme Court.

Justice Nyako subsequently adjourned the matter sine- die pending the outcome of the appeal at the supreme Court.

In a twist of the event, the federal government has filed a 7-count amended charge against Nnamdi Kanu.

But presiding Judge, Binta Nyako insist that the court will wait for the outcome of the appeal at the Supreme Court.

The proscribed IPOB Leader has been on trial since his return to the Country by the nations’ intelligence Services following a manhunt after he escaped from Trial in 2017.

He had accused the Nigerian Army of attempting to kill him after the Army allegedly invaded his residence in Abia State to disperse a crowd of IPOB loyalists who have been terrorising the residents of the State.

He is standing trial on Terrorism, Treason and Other charges following the campaign of Killing, Wanton destruction of property and murder that have been attributed to the members of his proscribed group and Supporters.

Prominent people of Igbo extraction have fallen victims to the alleged activities of the proscribed group.
