The National Assembly complex currently being renovated by the Federal Capital Development Authority, May miss the deadline set for completion as the Contractor in charge says the earlier agreed timeline ,is no longer be feasible.

The Site Engineer disclosed this to the Senate Committee on FCT when they carried out a site assessment of on going projects within the Federal capital Territory

He blames the unpredictable foreign exchange rate for their failure to complete renovation as earlier scheduled.

The Senate’s Committee on FCT led by its chairman, Senator Smart Adeyemi with officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority, spend a whole day touring the FCT to inspect critical Federal Government projects within the Nation’s Capital .

The purpose is to see first hand, the level of progress achieved so far , challenges experienced and also areas in which they can add value through legislative interventions.

The Exercise begins at the National Assembly Complex where the ongoing renovation work seems to be moving at snail speed

The next stop is at the the IDU train Station in Abuja, which was expected to commence operations in November this year as earlier announced by the Minister of Transportation .

The Contractors on site also inform the committee that it is constrained by funding which has also slowed down its operations, and beg for intervention by the National Assembly.

The Senate Committee is still impressed with the level of work done around the FCT despite daunting challenges, and promise to support through legislative interventions where necessary.

The oversight function and visits by the National Assemble team is designed to ensure speedy completion of ongoing projects and guard against project failure or abandonment.

The issue which has generated a lot of comments also stems from the overwhelming number of Constituency projects from members of the National Assembly since 1999 that have been left abandoned.
