The court case involving the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Weekly Source, Jones Abiri has been adjourned to 21st April for trial.
Earlier today, Jones Abiri returned to court for the first time after his release from Kuje correctional facility. He is facing a 3-count charge of terrorism, economic sabotage and fraud brought against him by the FG.
The prosecuting counsel informed the court that on 20th June 2019 an application seeking protection for its witnesses was filed. He says the witnesses are expressing fears in the matter.
The prosecuting counsel wants the witnesses shielded and only the judge and parties involved in the matter will be allowed see them.
In his response counsel to Mr Abiri says the prosecution witnesses are well known to them and their name have been mention in the statement served on them.
He noted that the defendant has a right to see the witnesses called by the prosecutor eye to eye.
In a short ruling Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu held that the application to shield the prosecution witnesses is granted, accerdited journalists of the court will be allowed to witness the proceedings.
The court finally adjourned to 21st,22nd and 23rd April for definite trial.
