The All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representative candidate for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Pharm. Ejikeme Omeje was reported dead in early hour of Tuesday.
Omeje, a top party candidate in Enugu North Senatorial Zone, died in a motor accident, along Eden Ani/Nsukka road, near El-Rina hotel Nsukka.
An APC stakeholder from the zone who confirmed to the incident, said it occurred when he was driving back from Edem-Ani town after a political gathering.
He was said to be driving alone along the Erina-Edem Ani road in Nsukka, when he suddenly lost control and his car veered into the bush, hitting a tree in the process.
He was rushed to the hospital but later died early Tuesday morning as a result of serious injuries sustained in the accident.
Also confirming the incident, the State Secretary of the APC in Enugu State, Mr. Robert Ngwu, described it as shocking.
Also an eyewitness who gave his name as Okechukwu Ezeme told our Correspondent that Omeje was rushed to a hospital where he died early due to serious injuries he sustained in the head.
Ezeme lamented that a young and vibrant Nsukka son, whose political clout is viable enough to wrestle power from the People’s Democratic party dominated Nsukka/Igbo-Eze federal constituency died in his prime.
He is saddened that Omeje will be missed by the party and APC loyalists in Nsukka federal constituency.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, could not be reached for confirmation.
With barely three months to general election, Enugu state has been enjoying the support and domination of rhe people’s Democratic Party (PDP). but the emergence of Peter Obi of Labour Party and APC governorship candidate Chief Uche NNAJI, seem would change the political narrative in the state.
The political consciousness this time in Enugu and the South East makes it difficult for anyone to unilaterally project that a party will dominate the coming election.
