The Presidency has refuted reports by some international organisations that starvation and death were imminent due to the inability of the Federal Government to provide adequately for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
A statement from the Presidency described the reports as unnecessary “hype,” stating that the government would not let 100,000 Nigerians or even a million die as forecast by the United Nations and another aid agency.
The Presidency disclosed that it is addressing the food shortage and humanitarian challenges at the camps with the help of the National Emergency Management Agency and other Nigerian officials.
