The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai on Tuesday reopened Maiduguri-Damboa highway after being closed over insecurity.

Buratai pledged the commitment of the army to curtailing activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the north east.

He stated this during the official reopening of Maiduguri – Damboa road which has been closed for more than a year due to attacks.

The Reopening of Maiduguri-Damboa Road is part of military’s effort to ease the difficulties encountered by commuters who travel to the southern parts
of the state.

For the past 13 months, the Maiduguri-Damboa Road has been closed due to activities of Boko Haram insurgents.

The 87 kilometre Road links Maiduguri to southern part of the state and other neighbouring states.

The Nigerian Army is determined to keep the road open and to achieve this, security operations have been doubled along the axis.

It is confident that with patrols at their peak, it will be able to guarantee the safety of commuters plying the road.

The Borno State Government and commuters who bore the brunt of the closure appreciate, this development which they believe will boost the
socio-economic activities in the state.

The Reopening of the road has revived activities of petty traders along the axis.
