TVC’s Kemi Fola-Adeyemo attended an advocacy workshop on the importance of a constitutional framework to a functional democracy in Nigeria.

Ayo sogunro, a lawyer and doctorate scholar at the Pretoria based centre for human rights, argued that democracy, good governance and respect for human rights can’t be achieved under the current constitution.

Sogunro who spoke at a conference in Lagos, demanded for an independent judiciary, a better justice system and an end to impunity. He added that what Nigeria really needs is transformism.

Freedom House, a U.S.-government-funded non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on democracies around the world rates Nigeria in 2019 as partly free.

It stated that despite significant improvements in its general elections, concerns linger on insecurity, violence by security operatives and human rights abuses. But the advocacy continues to ensure a better constitutional framework that upholds the rule of law.
