A renowned playwright and medical practitioner, Wale Okediran has urged medical schools and health profession training institutions across Nigeria to integrate the study of arts in their curricular.
Mr Okediran who spoke at the 9th distinguished guest lecture series of the University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo in Ondo State tittled Connecting Medicine and Literature: Reflections for University System and Health Professions Education in Nigeria, said the lecture is designed to harness the symbiotic nexus between arts and medicine.

Okediran said literature is a powerful learning tool, that has gone a long way to bring out the best in daily activities of medical practitioners globally.
The former federal lawmaker added that literature helps in the development of an educated, compassionate and caring doctor, complementary to scientific knowledge.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice chancellor of UNIMED, Professor Adesegun Fatusi said the deep understanding of the role of humanities in modern health professions, is of great importance.
The visitor to the university and Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, who was represented at the event, said government will continue to support the University in every area necessary.
Other speakers also urged medical schools to integrate literature into their curricular.
