A summit on deepening legislators’ understanding  of roles they play in improving healthcare delivery through the universal health coverage has held in Abuja.

The event,  which is the third annual summit for legislative network on universal health coverage, is the third of its kind.

Kemi Balogun reports that Universal health coverage is a structure that allows for everyone’s access to  promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services. It also ensures that the use of these services does not cause the beneficiary any financial strain.

This summit on universal health coverage for legislators now maps the role of lawmakers towards implementing the basic health care provision fund within the context of the national health act of 2014.

Members of the legislative network for universal health coverage are here to deliberate on achievements and also work on other areas in health care that need improvement.

Experts and partners at this summit are willing to reposition Nigeria’s health care system by ensuring that adequate health care financing is implemented along side other existing policies.

They included the basic health care provision fund, the national health insurance scheme and primary health. The gathering also focused on ways lawmakers can improve on legislative duties through frameworks for health improvement.
