Millions of Nigerians suffer as a result of a lack of access to basic sanitation facilities.
Due to underfunding and poorly managed sanitation systems, the global sanitation issue impacts approximately three and six billion people.
As a result, the Nigerian government is hoping that the upcoming world toilet summit, which will be held in the country’s capital, can assist to make a difference if countries band together to reach this milestone.

The country ranks as the second largest nation with open defecation after India with about 47 million of its citizens not having access to basic toilet facilities leading to the indulgence in open defecation.
The public health, environment and economy are put at risk with devastating consequences for the poorest communities, while the sanitation crisis affecting millions continues unabated.
With plans towards improving sanitation across the country, Nigeria launched a campaign to end open defecation by the year 2025.
Speakers at a briefing ahead of the world toilet summit, believe that the gathering will open the doors to bring in more resources, expertise and innovations to help bring an end to the sanitation crisis.
The summit will help to mobilise high level political support , resources and also the private sector in achieving this year’s theme and goal.
