South Sudan has received 1.1 million doses of cholera vaccines as the country battles an outbreak of the disease.
The vaccines were flown into Juba as a donation from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI).
Although the cholera outbreak was first reported in October in a village on the border between South Sudan and Sudan, it has now expanded to six of the ten states in the country.
The most affected groups are those displaced from their homes by floods and refugees from Sudan.
According to the South Sudanese authorities, the cholera outbreak has claimed the lives of over 100 people and infected over 6,000 others.
To assist stop the disease’s spread, the government called on the medical community and other interested parties to step up their efforts.
