The newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, has clarified that there is no directive to revive the Nigeria Air deal with Ethiopian Airlines.
Dr. Kana made this clarification on January 8, 2024, following inquiries about comments he made during the recent handover ceremony. He explained that his earlier remarks were misconstrued and did not indicate any mandate to revisit the previous national carrier arrangement.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I never said there is a mandate to revive the botched Nigeria Air deal with Ethiopian Airlines. I received no such instruction,” he stated. “My comments only referred to the Administration’s broader vision to consider a National Carrier Project, should it be in the country’s best interest and under the guidance of Mr. President and the Honourable Minister of Aviation.”
Reaffirming his dedication to the Ministry’s agenda, Dr. Kana pledged his full support to the Honourable Minister in driving the sector’s development.
The permanent secretary’s statement reiterates the Ministry’s focus on innovation and progress while addressing concerns surrounding his earlier comments.
