The 2024 Carnival Calabar has come to a close, with outstanding performances.
This year’s event showcased the rich cultural heritage and creativity of participating local governments, states, and carnival bands.
The 28th of December every year is the day set aside by the govt of CRS for the biggest street party christened, ” carnival calabar”.
The colorful event attracted people from far and near to participate and share beautiful memories with family and friends in Calabar.
Governor Bassey Otu and his wife arrived with dignitaries, including the former first lady Aisha Buhari, among other dignitaries ,all dressed in festive attire.
The carnival procession featured 12 bands, including 7 competing and 5 non-competing groups, each showcasing stunning costumes, elaborate feathered headgear, all to impress the audience
As Nightfall beckoned, the atmosphere transformed, with lights and music taking center stage. Party bands embodied the carnival’s theme, “Shared Prosperity.”
Prior to the main event, the city also hosted the Cultural and Junior Carnival, setting the stage for the festivities.
The carnival ended with Calas Vegas emerging winner in the Senior and Junior Carnival categories, while Akwa Ibom State won the Cultural/State Carnival category.
Carnival Calabar, launched in 2004, is a strategic initiative by the Cross River State government to boost tourism and contribute to the local economy.
