Environmentalists are calling for the development of forest assets in Nigeria, so as to unlock the vast untapped Potential which could generate hundreds of millions of foreign exchange in carbon credits annually.
This was revealed at the 2024 Rite on the Beach Academic Festival.
It targets the youth and aims to achieve social justice through carbon asset creation.
The organisers say their strategy is by empowering coastal communities with environmental and economic resilience.
The festival usually starts with a symposium and goes on to a five day residency program which includes a 13km trek from Takwa to Ilashe for data collection and analysis.
The participants believe this exercise will help in securing the mangroves of the western peninsula for future generations and uplift the communities, thereby making the state an ecotourism destination.
