Selection of the winning entry for the One Nigeria Unity fabric has already begun, as the first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, moves closer to introducing a national fabric for the country.
The first lady passionately believes that this effort would foster national identity, patriotism, and unity.
Finalists have been chosen for the One Nigeria Unity Fabric, a project of the First Lady’s Renewed Hope initiative.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu proposed the concept of a national fabric that would permeate Nigeria’s rich culture while breaking down ethnic divisions.
The governing board of the Renewed Hope initiative, along with two top fashion industry professionals, will sift through over 100 entries to pick a winning design that will showcase Nigerian young creativity.
The First Lady told journalists that this will have a significant multiplier effect on Nigeria’s economy, especially in the textile industry.
According to the First Lady, The winning design will be announced in September , and the winner will receive a prize of Twenty Million Naira to support their education or business venture.
The winning fabric will be launched on the first of October and produced by local manufacturers.
The two top Nigerian designers of international repute who are the judges of the One Nigeria Unity Fabric already have their job cut out.
The #OneNigeria/Unity Fabric competition is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, the First Lady’s pet project, which complements the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in areas such as agriculture, youth and women empowerment, education, health, and social welfare.
