The North East Development Commission has distributed hundreds of prosthetic limbs, crutches, and wheelchairs to persons living with disabilities in Borno state as part of efforts to promote inclusivity and empowerment for people living with disabilities.
There is a notable rise in the number of persons living with disabilities in the Northeast due to insurgency and displacement
This is why the Northeast Development commission gathered people living with disabilities across Borno to distribute this mobility equipment.
This according to the commission would go a long way towards helping them move around easily and participate in community engagements.
The National Commission for People with Disabilities disclosed that there are about eight million people with disabilities in the Northeast region.
The 188 assistive devices were purchased for 94 million naira, according to NEDC and will be given to the recipients.
Other states in the region would also receive same intervention soon.
This intervention is part of the mandate of the NEDC in bringing succour to survivors of the 13-year Boko Haram insurgency.
