The Forward Operating Base, FOB of the Nigerian Navy, Igbokoda, has distributed more than 1,000 free education materials to students in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Commanding Officer of the base, Navy Captain Wasuku Alushi described the exercise as part of the mandate of Operation Delta Sanity.
The event, which was tagged Operation Delta Sanity Non-Kinetic Efforts, took place at the premises of Ilaje High School, Igbokoda.
The exercise, carried out by officers and men of the Forward Operating Base, FOB of the Nigerian Navy, Igbokoda, featured distribution of free education materials to students, career and health talk, as well as mass school deworming.
Speaking at the event, the Commanding Officer of the Base, Navy Captain Wasuku Alushi said the decision to embark on the education initiative is intentional, because there is a nexus between education and national security.
Navy Captain Alushi noted that a substantial number of people involved in illegalities are from the same age group like the students.
Speaking on the initiative, the Olu of Igbokoda, Oba Afolabi Odidiomo and other community leaders commended the effort, saying it would encourage the students in various areas, including health, education and career planning.
The initiative is expected to cement civil-military relationships in the area.
