Katsina state Governor, Dikko Umar Radda has reacted to the recent judgment on local governments autonomy by the supreme Court of Nigeria and stated the position of the state as far as local government autonomy is concerned.
The Governor spoke at a special meeting with the members of the state assembly, the local government chairmen and the state executive Council members over the matter.
Local government autonomy has remained a delicate issue over the years that has generated a lot of arguments from stakeholders even after the supreme Court judgement recently.
However, it will appear some Governors are ready to let go after the recent verdict for direct funding by the supreme Court.
Many are of the opinion that, the joint account did not only slow down governance and development at the grassroots, but also succeeded in allowing the state governors to toy with third tiar structure of government.
Although, Governor Dikko Radda disagree with such mindset sighting examples on how his administration carefully ran local governments in the last one year.
The governor also unveiled his community development program a kin to local government autonomy.
This effort tries to strengthen wards and communities to be part of governance and development of their areas.
The Governor also used the event to sign a supplementary budget of over 27 billion naira into law.
