A university lecturer, Olugbenga Oke-Samuel has stressed the need for Nigeria to embrace synergies that leverage the strengths of police officers and legal practitioners in the administration of criminal justice in the country.
Mr. Oke-Samuel spoke at a lecture in Akure, Ondo state capital organised for the newly appointed commissioner of Police,Akaninyene Ezima.
The administration of criminal justice stands as a cornerstone of societal order and democratic governance.
It also serves as the fulcrum upon which the delicate balance between individual liberties and collective security stand.
The lecture, delivered by a lecturer at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Olugbenga Oke-Samuel focused on the collaboration between the police and lawyers in the administration of criminal justice.
The university DON said it is through concerted efforts by stakeholders, police, lawyers, judiciary and civil society that Nigeria can create a criminal justice system that is truly responsive.
He added that the success of Nigeria’s criminal justice administration hinges on the ability of police and lawyers to work together seamlessly.
In their remarks, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of zone 17, the State Commissioner of Police and the newly promoted police commissioner harped on professionalism in the force.
