Again, men of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS in Kaduna state have arrested five hundred and sixteen illegal immigrants in Zaria local government area of the state.
The operatives of the service have been on what the describe as a ‘special Operation’ since the beginning of the year and the arrest was made after receiving actionable intelligence reports.
Comptroller of the service in Kaduna, Mr Liman Killa, who paraded the immigrants on Wednesday said at least 65% of them are from Niger while others are from chad and other neighboring ECOWAS countries.
Despite not being citizens, National Identifications Number (NIN) Slips and Permanent Voter Cards (PVC’s) were recovered from several of them.
The immigration authorities said their illegal stay in the country poses a huge security threat especially with the national elections coming up later this month.
Security authorities have also blamed illegal Immigrants for being perpetrators of some of the violence witnessed in some parts of the country.
The Liman Killa led Immigration team has promised to intensify search operations till such persons are arrested and repatriated back to their countries.
Meanwhile, a man identified as Edmund Uzoma has been arraigned before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Yaba for allegedly marrying a second wife.
The accused was arraigned on three counts of bigamy and falsification of information over a marriage certificate on Wednesday.
The prosecutor, Idowu Osungbure informed the court that the defendant contracted another wedding with one Sophia Yongxian at a wedding registry and made a false declaration that he was single while still married to another woman.
Osungbure alleged that the defendant committed the crime in 2019. The offences were punishable under sections 411 and 115 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws and Section 370 of the Criminal Code Act Cap. C. 38 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
