The storm in the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State seems not to have settled, months after the governorship primary election that produced the party’s governorship candidate Sheriff Oborevwori.
Now, supporters of the governorship candidate of the PDP, in Delta State, as well as party faithfuls have been advised to remain focused over the malicious suit filed against the party and the candidate by a former governorship candidate Aghwarianovwe Ikie.
In a statement by the Delta PDP Campaign Council spokesperson, ,Fred Oghenesivbe alleged that the former governorship aspirant who scored zero vote at the governorship primaries of PDP in May last year, is trying to use the judiciary to achieve the impossible.
He noted that Mr. Ikie is fully based in the United Kingdom where he has been practicing law, adding that the Plaintiff is not known to be an active player in the internal politics of PDP.
Mr. Oghenesivbe further posited that Mr. Ikie is not a popular politician in Delta State, saying that his mission is to cause petty confusion in the party.
ATIKU BEMOANS DOWNGRADE OF NIGERIA’S CREDIT RATING, PROMISES IMPROVEMENT
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed disapproval of the recent downgrade of Nigeria’s credit rating by Moody’s Investors Service.
With the global credit agency downgrading the country’s foreign debt for the second time in just over three months, the credit rating which was released on Friday marks the lowest Nigeria has received since 2006.
Atiku, in a series of tweets on Monday, said Moody’s took account of the government’s inability to curtail its addiction to deficit financing and its appetite for more funds from the Central Bank’s Ways and Means.
“Late last week, Moody’s Investors Service (The Moody’s) sadly, but not unexpectedly, downgraded the Nigerian Government’s Credit Rating from B3 to Caa1. This is a very significant downgrade,” he wrote.
“Moody’s notes the FGN’s deteriorating fiscal and debt position and its lack of capacity to respond to same; it notes the ‘exacerbating policy trading-off’ between debt servicing and the financing of critical sectors, including education, health, and other social programmes.”
The former Vice President described the observations as a direct indictment of the country’s political leadership for what he said is its failures in the management of our fiscal resources.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government lacks the critical competencies to initiate and implement innovative solutions to our problems and deliver on their mandate with the desired impact.
The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission has met with the management of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to discuss the possibility of a sufficient supply of petroleum products across the country on election day, particularly for the vehicles INEC will deploy to convey voting materials and personnel.
INEC MEETS NNPC OVER FUEL SCARCITY, ELECTION LOGISTICS
The INEC chairman appealed to the NNPC to approve his proposal to use NNPC land and floating mega stations nationwide to service election duty vehicles and boats.
He says INEC will bear the cost of the products, and By doing so, there will be a guaranteed supply for elections.
He also asked for permission to make a special arrangement with other marketers in locations where the NNPC may not have dedicated stations, and Consider other options to support the electoral body’s seamless operations on Election Day.
The Chairman of INEC Professor Mahmood Yakubu told officials at Nigeria’s Oil Company that the commission is mobilizing one hundred thousand vehicles and four thousand boats for the deployment of personnel and materials to one hundred and seventy-six thousand, eight hundred and forty-six polling units spread across eight thousand, eight hundred and nine registration areas.
