Government at all levels have been advised to explore the potentialities of Agribusiness through partnership with relevant stakeholders to achieve a prosperous economy.
Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde and his Kaduna state counterpart Nasir El- Rufai gave the advice in Ibadan.
The Agriculture remains one of the sectors not maximally explored in Nigeria, despite contributing to almost 30 percent of the total GDP in 2021.
To change this narrative, Oyo state governor and his Kaduna state counterpart say Nigeria can move significantly into a prosperous nation through successful partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
The Governors believe that although IITA has contributed significantly to Agriculture in Nigeria and African, but their leaders are yet to leverage on the opportunities it provides.
President of the African Development Bank commended the DG of IITA for his uncommon leadership in transforming Africa’s Agric industry.
The event is the sent off ceremony of the 7th Director General of the Institute for Tropical Agriculture Nteranya Saginga who has held the position since 2011.
Agribusiness and the enhancement of the Agriculture Value Chain by African Countries and indeed Nigeria has been an ongoing concern that is best encapsulated by the 2004 report of Cadbury’s turnover which ran into Billions while the Cocoa production in Africa was merely over a Billion Dollars at the time.
The focus on Agribusiness has been one Championed by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture since it was established in 1967 through collaborative effort between the Macarthur Foundation, African Countries and Western Partners.
The event also served as a platform for States with comparative advantages in Agribusiness and Agriculture like Oyo State, Kaduna and Others are able to meet and rub minds with Experts at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture on how and the process they can put in place to ensure its take off.
While the advise and speeches will continue experts have however pointe out that getting more of the nations’ teeming youth involved is a sure fire way of achieving this aim.
