Governor of Enugu state Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has confirmed the appointment of James Chukwuma Ogbonna as the Vice Chancellor of the newly established State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno.
Ogbonna is Professor of Microbiology and Biotechnology according to a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya.
Until his appointment, he was a deputy vice chancellor (academics) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was also a member of the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria.
Prof. Ogbonna’s appointment took effect Friday the 2nd, September, 2022.
The VC has over 20 years’ experience as a professor and member of the university’s Senate.
The National Universities Commission granted the new university full accreditation as a medical university a few months ago. It is situated in Udenu LGA of the state.
