JAMB hands over 19 year old candidate to police over result tampering

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says it has handed over a 19-year-old candidate in the 2021/2022 UTME to the police for investigation over what it described as “result tampering.”

JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the board’s headquarters in Abuja.

He says the candidate, Chinedu John, had claimed to have scored 380 in the examination conducted in June but was surprised to receive 265 from the board after the results were released.

He says dissatisfied with the alleged result, the candidate’s father, John Ifenkpam, approached an Enugu-based lawyer, Ikeazor Akaiwe, who wrote to JAMB for another opportunity for the boy to retake the examination and demanded N1 billion as damages.

According to Professor Oloyede, the lawyer said the N1 billion was to cover for the physical and emotional trauma the boy had been through from being offered “two separate scores.”

The candidate was said to have claimed that JAMB has altered his UTME scores from 2019 till 2021 and denied him the opportunity to study his desired course of medicine.

Professor Oloyede says the candidate, his father and Lawyers were invited to Abuja by the to help infinding a lasting solution to the matter.

Going Further, he says the candidate having failed to come clean in a closed session with is father and Lawyers was handed over to the Police after the board provided evidence to counter his claim.

He adds that the original result issued to him will be withdrawn pending investigation.

Oloyede says the candidate altered his result and will be prosecuted if found guilty adding that there 11 of such cases before the board.
