Nigeria’s mixed 4×400 relay team qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

Nigeria’s mixed 4 by 400 metres relay team qualified for the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, after setting a new National and African Record with a time of 3 minutes, 14.09 seconds.

The feat was achieved at the Making of Champions Relays in Lagos with the mixed relays team joining the women 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 metres team to book a place in Tokyo.

The results moves Nigeria to 15th in the Qualifying Position, with Only 16 teams qualifying for the relay events at the Olympics.

The men’s 4 by 100 metre team missed qualification for the Olympics by a fraction of a second after racing to a 38.62 seconds to win their event.

The Nigerian quartet of Enoch Adegoke, Usheoritse Itsekiri, Jerry Jakpa and Godson Brume missed Olympic qualifying by 0.1 seconds.

With qualifying window for the Olympics closing on the 29th of June, three of Nigeria’s five relay teams, the women 4 by 100 metres, 4 by 400 metres and the mixed relay teams are within the top 16 rankings to reach the Games.
