The Federal government has reacted to the adoption of “Eco” as the official currency by eight West African countries.
The minister of Fiance, Budget and National Planning, Ahmed Zainab, in a statement issued on Monday, said Nigeria is still studying the new ‘Eco’ currency and would “respond in due course.
“Nigeria has received the news of the change of name of the UEMOA currency, the CFA (Communaute Financiere d’Afrique) to Eco supposedly as the ECOWAS single currenc.
“Nigeria is “studying” the new ‘Eco’ currency and would “respond in due course,” the minister said.
The #Eco is the proposed name for the single currency that Economic Community of EWest African States plans to introduce in 2020 through the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ).
