Police teargas Shi’ites protesting against Zakzaky’s detention


The Police have clashed with hundreds of Shi’ites in the central area of Abuja.

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, are demanding the release of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, who has been detained since 2015.

The group arrived the National Assembly main gate and attempted to forcefully enter the compound, but were resisted by security.

A police reinforcement, supported by the Civil Defence, fired tear gas at the protesters and chased fleeing demonstrators into the neighbouring federal secretariat.
