Gambia’s UDP takes majority in parliament

Image result for Gambia's opposition UDP takes majority in parliamentThe Gambia’s United Democratic Party (UDP) has finally taken the place of the majority in the country’s parliament.

The party emerged from decades in opposition in the country’s parliament to take its first absolute majority on Friday.

This was just after the support for former leader Yahya Jammeh’s party collapsed.

Official results from Thursday’s election, showed the UDP won 31 of the 53 available elected seats in the country’s National Assembly, while Jammeh’s Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) shrank from 43 elected seats to 5.
