Navy arrests NDA member in Delta

Navy arrests NDA member in Delta

TVC N. It was reported that a member of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), who specialised in killing innocent people and bombing pipelines in Delta creeks and waterways have been arrested by the Nigerian Navy in Warri.

Addressing newsmen yesterday, the Commander, NNS Delta, Warri Naval Base, Commodore Joseph Dzunve, said the suspect, Abraham Julius Suru, among others, have been the brain behind the bombings and vandalisation of oil pipelines in the area since 2011. Dzunve said the suspect was arrested on September 20 within Sapele area during an operation by his men, stressing that effort would be intensified to make the area crime free.

“It was gratifying to note that crude oil theft and all forms of illegalities hitherto being practiced in the creeks have reduced drastically.

We will leave no stone unturned to halt the scourge that is capable of affecting the nation’s economy,” Dzunve further said, insisting that combing the creeks and waterways will be intensified. Fielding questions from newsmen on the next line of action against the suspects, the naval boss declared; “we don’t prosecute suspects, rather we hand them over to the appropriate authorities after carrying out preliminary investigations.”

But the suspect, who hails from Ondo State, said he was introduced into the illegal business by late Gafar Polo years back, adding that together, they had taken part in a series of illegal business as well as killing and maiming of people. “We have wreaked havoc on a lot of pipelines and killed a lot of people in the process. I regret my action but I must say that I am not alone in the illegal business,” said the suspected Niger Delta Avengers member.
