Sixteen people have been confirmed dead and 17 injured following a road accident that happened along the Ojoo-Iwo road section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, in Ibadan.
The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo Sector Command Mayowa Odewo confirmed this to TVC News during a telephone interview.
Eye witness account revealed that the incident occurred when a heavy duty truck laden with roofing sheets collided with an 18-seater commercial vehicle and subsequently rammed into other passing automobiles.
Further findings suggest that the tragic occurrence may have been caused by brake failure, despite the fact that neighbors familiar with the road carnage blamed the accident on an abandoned part of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Meanwhile, motorists have urged the state government to take a more proactive approach by purchasing heavy-duty towing equipment that could be useful in the event of an emergency.
